At the international exhibition "Arms and Security-2017", held October 10- 13 in Kyiv, the SC "UkrOboronProm" demonstrated the best achievements of the defense industry of Ukraine.

For the first time in Ukraine, BTR-4MV1, armed vehicle "Strazh", BRDM-NIK, the mobile mortar complex "Bars-8MKC", 3D radar 80K6T and international projects ZRN-01 Stokrotka and M4 -WAC-47 attracted maximum attention. as well as other hundred and fifty pieces of weapons and military equipment from "UkrOboronProm".

High-Precision "Karasuk"

"Karasuk" is a new high-precision projectile, developed by the State Enterprise Scientific-Production Complex "Progress", which is part of the SC "UkrOboronProm", was demonstrated at the exhibition "Arms and Security 2017" for the first time.

"Karasuk" is a "smart weapon" sample, providing maximum probability of destroying the target with a first shot at a range of up to 12 km. Using semi-active laser guidance contributes to maximum strike accuracy, achieved throughout the range of the distance of the shot.

In this case, electronic and opto-mechanical systems of the projectile are designed in such a way as to withstand super-high overload during an artillery shot (not less than 10 000g).

Laser target-rangefinders, both ground-based and mounted on UAVs, can be used to target "Karasuka". This allows to ensure the effective destruction of even protected administration and communications centers, bridges, crossings, defended posts, enemy artillery, and other targets.

It is possible to use "Karasuk" with 122-mm caliber artillery systems, including D-30 guns and self-propelled artillery units 2С1 Ukrainian Army is equipped with.

"Using a "smart" high-precision missile allows saving time and cost of combat operations, to reduce losses, and in the context of modern combat operations and counter-tank combat, the use of high-precision shells gives a decisive advantage over the enemy," said Mykola Klochko, First Deputy Director – Chief Designer of the State Enterprise “Scientific-Production Complex "Progress."

New sight for BTR-4MB1

The newly modernized BTR-4MV1 version, demonstrated in the framework of the "Arms and Security" exhibition for the first time, received a new opto-electronic sight with a powerful thermal imager, coupled with a high-precision digital fire control system.

A new sight was manufactured by the State Enterprise "Izyum Instrument-Making Plant", which is the part of the State Concern "UkrOboronProm". A new high-sensitivity thermal imager, capable of detecting targets at a distance of about 5 km, became the main feature of the new sight OEP-VN. This allows BTR-4MB1 to destroy the enemy at the maximum range of weapons, even in the night and in difficult weather conditions, this significantly expands the combat capabilities of BTR-4MB1.

The new laser rangefinder of the Ukrainian production is also installed in the OEP-VN. The creation of a new sight became possible due to effective cooperation between UKROBORONPROM and a number of companies from NATO countries, as well as private Ukrainian enterprises.

"Using modern optics and digital technologies contributed to development of a fundamentally new high performance sight. In addition, the weight of the sight has been drastically reduced – now it weighs about 17 kg, which is almost twice as easy as the previous sight, mounted on BTR-4. Its small size allows installing it on lighter vehicles, from BTR-3 and BMP, to light-armored vehicles "Dozor-B" type, – said Serhiy Filonenko, Izyum Instrument-Making Plant director.

KBA40 – 23mm barrel for AA mount

UOP SE "DB" Artillery Armament "  – implementing import substitution program – developed and mastered barrels 23-mm calibers – KBA40 for AA mount ZU-23-2 (2A13), using its own working capital.

The KBA40 program implementation required new production cycles development to increase the ballistic characteristics of automatic guns, and now plant spacialists are getting ready for the next stage of the testing, prerequisite for the KBA40 use by the security forces of Ukraine.

KBA40 will quickly replace similar Soviet barrels that are currently used in AA mounts ZU-23-2, proven to be an effective means of eliminating both air and land targets due to the high speed and firing range. At the same time, UOP enterprises-participants are working on development of combat modules using KBA 40 barrels for equipping Ukrainian armored vehicles.
