UKROBORONPROM in 2017: training of specialists for defence sector

In 2017 Ukroboronprom made a prominent contribution to the most important aspect – training of the new generation specialists for defence sector of Ukraine. In late 2017, December 22, Ukrobornprom and National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” opened the MSc program – Management in defence industry. Ukraine is forming a professional Army, so for this purpose systematic training of new defence sector specialists is needed. This educational program is designed primarily for volunteers and ATO zone venerans, who will be able to combine their practical experience with the knowledge gained during 1.5 year training.

In addition, the agreement signed envisages expanding of the specialist training cooperation program. Launching specialist training program – covering Bachelor-Master-PhD – is the next stage. In future – creation of the Joint Center for development and introduction of high-tech field innovative projects into production. In general, over three years, UOP and KPI’s specialists developed about 40 pieces of military equipment and technical devices in all areas of defense industry; six of them are already taken into service by Ukrainian Army. In 2017 a series of educational MBA programs for Ukrobornprom specialists was successfully completed, including joint program with Kyiv International Institute of Management and Thunderbird School of Global Management, which is a part of the largest university in the USA – Arizona State University.

Thunderbird School of Global Management program – with 70+ year experience and oriented on specific requirements and needs of defence and industry sector – allows to cover issues of business administration, project management, finance and human resource management, efficiency management etc. Creation of such a program – due to cooperation of Ukroboronprom and Embassy of the USA – allows to apply western approach in corporate governance and enhance effective decision making.
