UKRAINE AND NATO HELD FIRST JOINT SEMINAR ON DEFENCE INDUSTRY REFORMING

Ukraine and NATO held the first joint seminar, discussing the transformation of the national defence industry and the possibility of Ukraine – NATO cooperation. Members of the NATO International Staff, representatives of UKROBORONPROM, the Ministry of Defence Ukraine, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and local authorities took part in the first Ukraine-NATO seminar. The seminar was held in Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy on June 1.

"Seniority level of foreign countries and companies from Europe and America at today’s forum will give good, high-quality and effective impetus to defence industry transformation – namely defence reform. This is current strategic need", – said UKROBORONPROM Deputy Director General for Foreign Economic Activity Denis Gurak.

Mechanisms of collaboration between companies of the military-industrial complex of NATO countries, national defence ministries and other government bodies, implementation of appropriate standards in production of military equipment in Ukraine were the main subject of the seminar.

"This is a great opportunity to share experiences that will become the driving force of the defence industry both in terms of new weapons and military equipment development and modernization of the existing samples," – said the head of Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy, Lieutenant General Pavel Tkachuk.

First Deputy Head of Lviv Regional State Administration Rostislav Zamlynsky noted that this event is extremely important for Lviv Region. "Our region is the center of business activity in Ukraine and Europe in general," – he added.

In 2016 UKROBORONPROM develops the strategy “Ukrainian shield.” This program focuses on high-tech production, transition to international standards (NATO) and supplying the army with modern types of armaments. The State Concern expands cooperation with NATO and the EU countries, as defined by the strategic course of the state.
